FROM THE OFFICE OF CHRIS RENIUS, ASSESSOR

The Riga Township Assessor’s mission is to establish and maintain the valuation of all properties within the Township.  The use and distribution of this information provides an indirect benefit to any individual who wishes to buy, sell, or finance property in Riga Township.
The valuation of all township parcels is an annual procedure.  The effective date for establishing values of properties is December 31st of each year, also known as Tax Day.

The Assessing Department has three basic duties:
  1. Inventory and list all property, real and personal, within Riga Township.
  2. Uniformly and equitably evaluate taxable property within Riga Township.
  3. Calculate the taxable value for each taxable piece of property within Riga Township.

The Assessing Department is responsible to carry out the State mandate of inventorying all parcels within Riga Township.  Inspections include measuring the structures on the property, verifying with the owner, when possible, information about the property and structures, taking digital photos, verifying the land description and digital sketch of the structures, and processing this information in our Computer Assisted Mass Appraisal (CAMA) software.
